We sell only bare root and grown in the pot evergreen trees
Be careful selecting potted trees for your planting, there are
many businesses that say they sell potted trees. It is really a bare root
tree put in a pot with soil and immediately sold. If a tree has not grown at least
one year in the pot you are not getting a potted tree and the complete root
system you need for survival. To tell if it is a potted tree pull the tree
out of the pot and shake it. If the soil falls off it is a bare root tree
and should be at bare root prices. A potted tree with its complete root
system will hold on to its soil even when shaken vigorously and you are getting
what you pay for.
For over 40 years we have looked at windbreaks in Iowa and have
decided that these species below have stood the test of time and Iowa's
unpredictable climate. Most windbreak trees we plant can live over 100 years.

The bare root trees can be shipped UPS.
Larger potted trees 3ft+ must be picked up at the nursery, potted trees carry a
guarantee that we will replace up to 10% of the tree planting that doesn't
survive the first year. If you are losing more than that, something else is
wrong. Normal losses we plant with proper weed control is about 3%. All losses
must be reported to us before Oct. 1st in the year they are planted. We do not
cover losses beyond our control such as droughts, floods, lawn mowers, or
animals. Call us if you have any questions.
2011 was another big year for windbreaks. It is still one of my
favorite tree plantings. Blocking Cold Winter Winds makes winter bearable
and beautiful.
The planting of seedling evergreen trees (except for Red
Cedar) in the field or yard is usually a waste of time and money. One bite
from a deer or rabbit, or failure to provide weed and grass control the
first 3 year, kills 98% of those planted. It is critical that you
provide grass and animal control to your seedlings, and we can help you do
this.
